Derrick Searle

Derrick was certified in 1999 and has been a regular diver ever since. He became an Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) in 2007 at Alki Cove in Seattle, Washington. Derrick has had the opportunity to complete over 100 dives in the Puget Sound, which is around 52 degrees and home to some of the Pacific North West’s best dive sites, where you may see Wolf Eels, Giant Pacific Octopus, & if you’re lucky, 6 gill sharks!

A social worker by trade, Derrick has led trips with youth all over the country and world. He loves live music and has been to nearly 200 concerts in 10 states (he absolutely loves DMB!). When he’s not attending music venues, Derrick loves any excuse to put on his dry suit. In fact, his coldest dive was 38 degrees in Clear Lake, Oregon, where the visibility was nearly 100 feet.

His favorite dive was a manta ray night dive off the coast of Kona, HI, where he found himself inches from countless 1,200 pound creatures with wingspans of up to 16 feet! His dream is to one day climb Mount Kilimanjaro and dive with the great whites off the coast of South Africa.

As an OWSI, Derrick is certified to teach Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Refresher, Open Water, Advanced Open Water, and Rescue Diver courses. He encourages anyone who loves diving to give cold water diving a try!
